Dear friends,
I am pleased to inform you that my first book “The Rationalist Murders” has been published by Lancer. This book is a deep dive into the murders of Dr Narendra Dabholkar, Comrade Pansare, Gauri Lankesh and MM Kalburgi and the investigation into their murders. The Rationalist Murders brings to light various little known aspects of these cases and exposes the investigations as motivated and biased due to the intense politicisation of these murders. It exposes how the investigative agencies ran a media trial against the accused for years in the absence of any significant evidence, and the fact that the courts pulled them up for it repeatedly.
You may recollect the “award wapsi” that happened in 2015, when several prominent persons returned their Padma awards in protest against alleged “attempts to silence the voice of reason”. It was following MM Kalburgi’s murder. It happened even before a formal investigation had taken place.
I make a strong case for police reforms to free up the police and investigative agencies from political control so that they can genuinely work without fear or fervour.
You can understand what I mean by seeing this video on the subject – a talk I delivered on 29th April 23 at the formal book launch ceremony in Mumbai.

Do buy the book. It’s a disturbing read, no doubt, but its very important that we understand what happens when police investigations work on presuppositions instead of investigating all leads in a case. And that if the evidence for the presupposed cause is lacking, they can go out of their way to create it by torturing hapless people into submission. This could happen to you or me. And that really scares me. It should scare you too.
